French press for two.
This recipe makes two small servings or one generous mug. Use a press with room for at least 600 mL so the coffee and water have space.

Recipe
- 30 g coffee
- 480 g water
- Coarse grind
- Water around 200°F
- Four-minute steep
Equipment
French press, kettle, scale, timer, spoon, and mugs.
Steps
- Warm the empty press with hot water and pour that water away.
- Add 30 g coarse coffee.
- Start the timer as you add 480 g water. Stir gently so no dry pockets remain.
- Set the lid on with the plunger raised and steep for four minutes.
- Press slowly. If the plunger resists strongly, stop forcing it and release the pressure before trying again.
- Pour the finished coffee into mugs or a separate server rather than leaving it on the grounds.
Adjusting the cup
For a stronger cup, increase the coffee to 32 g while keeping the water at 480 g. If the finish is too heavy, try 28 g. Some sediment is normal with a metal filter; leave the last little splash in the press if you prefer a cleaner cup.
Dockside is the easy starting point. Try North Shore for a deeper roast or Moonrise when you want decaf.
