Coffee for your lake days.

French press for two.

This recipe makes two small servings or one generous mug. Use a press with room for at least 600 mL so the coffee and water have space.

French press and two mugs on a wooden breakfast table.

Recipe

  • 30 g coffee
  • 480 g water
  • Coarse grind
  • Water around 200°F
  • Four-minute steep

Equipment

French press, kettle, scale, timer, spoon, and mugs.

Steps

  1. Warm the empty press with hot water and pour that water away.
  2. Add 30 g coarse coffee.
  3. Start the timer as you add 480 g water. Stir gently so no dry pockets remain.
  4. Set the lid on with the plunger raised and steep for four minutes.
  5. Press slowly. If the plunger resists strongly, stop forcing it and release the pressure before trying again.
  6. Pour the finished coffee into mugs or a separate server rather than leaving it on the grounds.

Adjusting the cup

For a stronger cup, increase the coffee to 32 g while keeping the water at 480 g. If the finish is too heavy, try 28 g. Some sediment is normal with a metal filter; leave the last little splash in the press if you prefer a cleaner cup.

Dockside is the easy starting point. Try North Shore for a deeper roast or Moonrise when you want decaf.
